Terms of service
Last updated April 2026
1. Who we are
DebtLens is operated by Strauven Jean-Marc, based in Belgium. Contact: hello@debtlens.tech. In these terms, "DebtLens", "we", "us" and "our" refer to Strauven Jean-Marc. "You" refers to the individual or legal entity using the service.
2. What the service does
DebtLens consists of:
- The CLI — a command-line tool that analyses a Git repository locally on your machine and produces an HTML report. Free for everyone.
- The hub — a web service at
debtlens.techthat stores aggregated scores, generates executive PDFs with AI narrative, and shows historical trends. Available on paid plans.
DebtLens is an analysis tool. The scores, cost estimates, and narratives it produces are indicators based on your Git history, not professional advice. You are responsible for how you act on them.
3. Account and license
When you subscribe to a paid plan, we issue a license key tied to an email address. You are responsible for keeping the license key confidential and for all activity under it. The CLI enforces a per-machine quota using a one-way hash of hostname and username, as described in our data policy.
One license covers one organization. You may install the CLI on as many machines as your plan allows. Sharing a license key across organizations is not permitted.
4. Subscription and billing
Paid plans are monthly subscriptions and renew automatically until cancelled. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, acting as Merchant of Record. Prices are shown on the pricing page and are exclusive of any VAT or sales tax, which Lemon Squeezy adds at checkout based on your location.
You can cancel at any time from your account. On cancellation you keep access until the end of the current paid period. Refunds are governed by our refund policy.
We may change prices for new billing cycles with at least 30 days notice by email. The new price takes effect on your next renewal after that notice.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer the hub's protocol to forge reports or scores.
- Share or resell your license key to parties outside your organization.
- Use the service to process repositories you do not have the right to analyse.
- Attempt to overload, probe, or disrupt the hub beyond normal use.
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable law.
Violation may result in suspension or termination of your license without refund, in addition to any legal remedy available to us.
6. Your data
Your source code never leaves your machine. Only aggregated scores and counts are sent to the hub. The full technical breakdown is described in our data policy and our privacy policy.
You retain all rights to your source code and your Git history. We do not use any data you send to the hub to train AI models.
7. The CLI is open to inspection
The CLI binary can be inspected for the payload it sends. You are free to audit its network behaviour before running it. We reserve the copyright on the CLI source code and binary and grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it for the duration of your subscription, or indefinitely for the free feature set.
8. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not offer a formal SLA on monthly plans. The CLI keeps working locally even when the hub is unavailable — only the PDF generation and history features depend on the hub. Extended outages are covered by our refund policy.
9. Warranty and liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. Scores and cost estimates are informational, not audited figures. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including, for EU consumers, rights under mandatory consumer protection law.
10. Termination
You can terminate your subscription at any time by cancelling in your account. We can terminate for breach of these terms, with notice by email, and will refund any unused portion of the current month in that case unless the breach involves fraud or abuse.
On termination, your license is revoked and access to the hub ends at the end of the paid period. You can request deletion of your aggregated data at any time by emailing hello@debtlens.tech.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree with a change, you can cancel before it takes effect.
12. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Belgium. The courts of Belgium have exclusive jurisdiction for any dispute, save for the mandatory rights of EU consumers to bring proceedings in their country of residence.
